Knowing all the fish at first sight is the pending subject of many people. And this is because many fish are quite similar physically. A clear example of this is the family of the Thunnus. Therefore, today we are going to explain the main differences between the White Tuna and the Bluefin Tuna.

  1. The fin: in the case of the bonito, the upper fin is longer, while that of the Bluefin tuna is short. In fact, in Basque these fish are known as Hegaluzea (long fin) and Hegalaburra (short fin).
  2. The colour: the meat of the tuna has a reddish hue. That of the bonito, on the other hand, is more whitish.
  3. The fishing: both fishes are caught in the Atlantic Ocean, although the Bonito is caught in a more specific area, in the Bay of Biscay.
  4. Preparation: Bluefin tuna is widely used in Japanese food and is usually marinated to be eaten raw, while Bonito is a fish that is always eaten cooked.
